Five Years' Gestation

Although horses take only 11 months to produce a foal, we've been anticipating this colt for over 5 years. He was a "special order" from a stallion in Salmon, Idaho, named Black Weasel. The Weasel is advertised as a "big, soggy trail horse," and is mostly foundation quarter. We lost Weasel's first foal and then Kelly was in a "horse accident" that put him in a hospital bed for months and took him nearly two years to recover from. Just one year ago we finally had our lives back together enough to try for a Weasel colt again.

Aneleise is on the right meeting the day-old baby and on the left is Franzi, a German exchange student who is Erica's dearest friend. She is leaving for Germany this week.
