August 15th - four weddings all outside. We attended three of the four, provided the flowers for two. We were up to our elbows in pink garden roses peony style that we ordered directly from Columbia, ballet pink hydrangea, and white gerbera daisies. Kelly and the kids quickly fell back into their old roles from the days we owned a floral shop, and they stood around the kitchen island making boutenniers, prepping things for corsages and bouquets, and trying to keep supplies within short reach for me.
We were really blessed to attend the ceremony of David Long and Lisa Virgin, who've known each other for ten years. Four of Lisa's five children were able to stand beside them. David, our neighborhood "aesthetic hermit," has spent 20 years establishing a bird habitat and garden from native plants. Lisa carried an arm bouquet of gillia, a hummingbird staple. They gathered friends and family into "the circle garden" for the ceremony and we sat in the shade, the breeze just right, with hummingbirds flitting over the crowd. We are inspired by their dedication living simply, loving openly, and engaging daily with the natural world.
